See the two new photos from the junior section activites this summer as part of the Associations programme and National Fishing month.
Peter Rhodes with a 3lb-4oz mirror carp from Rileys Pond on his taster day session and Jacob Gogoley with his 2lb tench from the canal at kossets.

This October the AGM will see changes to the make up of the committee.
YOUR COMMITTEE IS LOOKING FOR NEW BLOOD !

We welcome new people who are willing and able to take on the various activities done by your representatives.
Our current Chair Mr Michael Riley will resign his post  as too will the current general secretary Mr Clive Milsom and they thought that it would be approriate to invite new people to take on other positions too.

It is an exciting time to join us as there are plans to improve the fisheries at Brookfoot by improving access for all,  possibly including the creation of another prolific venue similar to Tony Rileys Pond and increase the activities for Juiniors and beginners of all ages.  None of this will happen without the work done by pro -active committee members.

New comers do not need experience in committee work but a willingness to learn, involve themselves and get things done with the support of a group of like minded, longserving individuals.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO MAKE THINGS BETTER !!

Taster day Friday 23rd on Rileys Pond
We have confirmed reports that this was the best yet with all the 15 participants catching fish and some crackers amongst them too.
Top rod was young Liam  the first to get going and his 27 was beyond eXpectation, great stuff!
One of the youngest (9YRS) was Joshua and he showed his potential with consistently catching from the corner peg throughout.
Aaron took the best quality fish as expected for a returner from last year.
Coach were the mainstay but several lost carp...and a couple got out the better bream and tench.  It was so good at one time that big and little sisters joined in ...and they only came to watch !!
Thanks to all coaches and volunteers again

HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL SOON...AS YOU ALL CAN GET A FREE SESSION TO FOLLOW UP THE TASTER DAY....AND MEMBERS HAVE THEIR OWN PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES ONCE A WEEK THROUGH THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS (ALRIGHT FOR SOME !!-ed)
please all taster day participants can join as full members at a 50% reduction...ring general sec for details

The club annual taster day on Friday 23rd was a greast success -the best yet as all participants caught fish and some good ones too in excellent weather.  All 15 children -and a couple of sisters- had a a free goody bag courtesy of the Angling development Board and ample time to learn some skills from the experienced coaches on hand on a fish packed venue  -Rileys Pond.  Top catches were from the early starters but those booked in later also caught well.  Many thanks to the volunteers as well as bank runners Joe and Brad and to Clive and Sean from your committee who turned up to make iot a splendid occasion for all.

Activities for the juniors are posted on the website and in the book.  It is IMPORTANT TO BOOK ON by ringing Calder Anglers 01484 711063 for those wishing to come and fish,  those who want a bit of coaching and those who want to take part in the matches.

Many of the fish in our waters are, about to or have just, spawned despite the long cold winter although it may be a while before all those in the lake kick in.  if we do happen to catch any then please handle with extreme care as the risks of damage are at their highest aty this time. Working parties are considerring the state of some the platfrorms around the lake and several pegs on the pond  so BE CAREFUL is the watch word here if in doubt dont fish on unsafe ground.  ALSO if the dry weather continues for another week we may see the pond given a flush through by means of the pump for a few hours.

Riley's Pond Sat 17TH April
On a full sun day the pond seemed to fish better than anticipated as the pleasure anglers had noticed a slow down in sport since the easter weekend-but even they had had some sport.  latest match was won by j. holdsworth with a big bag of the better carp that came to one of the most consistent anglers on the club-john who won rileys league last year just missed the canal league trophy last season too !  Well claer of the field with 31lb john had andy lumb with 21lb trailing behind and dave rooney with 13lb in third.  many good anglers caught in the lbs so it was a matter of being on the bigger fish and knowing how to catch em.  interestingl;y  not all the favoured pegs performed this month so the fish are certasinly on the move at last.

Lake
Pleasingly carp are beggining to show on the lake and the sunny weather has brought out members new and old.  Also a few roach are feeding not in great numbers but very satisfying to those who target the silvers beauties.  Note they are not getting their heads down but go steady with he bait and you can expect a few bites as well as be seen off by the odd carp and tench!!!

Keep close to the bailiffs for new info on where the fish are shoaling on the canal tri cast -calder teams of four.   a typical mixed picture for the match lads as tightly packed fish meant you ha dto be on em to catch em.  several lost fish wd seem to indicate the bonus fish are staring to feed too  but it was the winter roach that dominated and boy did they get their heads down.  14lb for a winter win on the canal by the impressive alan crook from fox match took top honours with lee shaw on his home patch bringing 10lb to the scales for an excellent second.  grahm Batemans third with 5lb and several 2lbs showed what this water can produce but as indicated above there were several blanks..even next peg to these shoals of prime winter roach..bring on the warm weather!!

Rileys pond is beginning to show the sort of form that we have been used to -nothing spectacular -yet!!  but it wont be long.  Don`t ignore the roach here too as there are some solid fish being taken as well as many of the newly stocked carp

Brookfoot still very cold but odd fish responding to those that know the water -again stick close to the bailiffs here

It wont be long before the big pike get their appetite back after spawning both here on the canal so expect to cathc in these coming weeks.

The river has seen little change as the cold water continues to flow steadily in but the few grayling do seem to be getting bigger and the trout are coming into their own after spawning.  PLEASE NOTE THIS VENUE WILL SHUT COMPLETELY  15TH MARCH TO 24 TH MARCH BOTH DAYS INCUDED IN CLOSURE The committee can confirm success full stocking of fish into the waters- lots of roach into the canal pop shop willows and match length, roach into the lake  and roach and carp into the Pond .  approx £5k in value and lots of good quality too.  We are also grateful to the environment agency which has stocked  small roach into Red Beck,  adn kossets about 150lb in each location.  Thses fish were surplus stock from a pond in sheffield and we were delighted to give them a new home !!..fro free too!!
