weds 9 TH APRIL pm pond fishing well and first report of 1 lb + trout ( and grayling) from river
WHERES FISHING
march 4th few reports of fish except for the regular roach catches from the pond with occasional clutches of smaller carp canal particularly disappointing whereas the river continues to produce trout in abundance with odd grayling and fewer chub
A slower week all round as February settles into a period of fine weather- thank goodness Canal - few reports other than catches of smaller fish -one retired member got himself a 4lb+ bream from Elland just to show the rest of us up! Lake -it seems to be pike that are on the move and a 19 pounder taken in January is the best so far Pond slowing down even for the roach but 10+ at a sitting still possible..and some are nice fish up to 8oz River at last back in its banks and beginning to produce BUT mostly Trout up to 3lb out of season till end of March so handle with care
Good news from the pond today weds 23rd jan as lots of silver fish and several carp start to feed in earnest after the draining and flooding. we still have some banking to shore up so some pegs will be closed off but the lakeside should remain open.
Only odd good days on the pond and a struggle on the lake for the few that try again canal is best but not so if you are in a match
one good weight off the willows 6 lb + to win Sunday dec 2nd
pleasure sessions much better-possibly browns length which seemed to have performed most consistently in the match
one bailiff took 7lb of quality roach elsewhere on weds 5th dec -best fish a 1lb pristine roach on caster photo to follow RIVER CALDER RED BECK SECTION.Fishing quite well . Mixed bags of Chub , from 6oz to 4lb. Barbel from 3lb to5lb recorded, plus Lots of Grayling and the odd Roach and Ide, small maggot feeder seems to be favourite , but if you can fish a stick float you will bag up. Don’t forget the meat for the bigger fish , but you may have to be patient.WELL ITS WINTER AGAIN BUT HERE ARE SOME GOOD HOTSPOTSBrighouse town centre. Those that can park for free . Then go there you will bag up on the high and low walls, dog roach /hi/breads , very large perch and skimmers.Browns. The first 3 pegs will produce well the ones at the back of the mills . After that forget it they have all gone into the basin.Red Beck. Has been fishing very well, but has turned off. Try cliff face but only in a dry spell as water from red beck will take it out.Kossets. Top pegs producing good bags of mixed fish . A longer walk , but the further you go the better you catch.Deep Water. ;;; no its shallow. 3 pegs up from lock producing and one half way up on the old cast iron notice board , bream / tench and roach in abundance.Willows. Top pegs , as you go in , full of roach , perch , and pike. Try punch for good roach, 1lb plus, but you may sit on bits, it depends where the huge perch have decided to coral them up.Elliots match length, first 2 pegs o.k. I would leave this to itself till spring.Rawson's pool. It’s a long walk, from either end, but its stuffed and they are feeding, its up to you. the section is well sheltered from the wind, worth a look at.Pop Shop. Roach and chub, and perch you cannot fail on this section. Punch worm or caster, end of story.Crem /gas works Elland basin / Lockwoods. Get a life and live ,,, if we do not get a frost . All these sections are full of feeding fish. E/G. my personal from elland basin 25lb of 1lb + roach last Thursday on punch and caster.Flour mill, go on your own , you will bag it is the same for calder& Hebble section. Lots of fish but they are very wary of intervention keep it quiet you will bag up.Brookfoot Lake. Not very good. Wait for the re/stocking, but see pike and perch angling later in the report.Rileys. Pond. O. K. its cold but they are still catching. I think the carp and tench will bury there heads in the silt. Shortly then it will be a very good silver fish venue, where you can catch a fish in jan/feb. Not the best time of year , but the pond is sheltered over winter , and is recommended as a catching area. See you there.RIVER CALDER.All sections still fishing quite well, catch it as the water runs off .Lower sections producing good nets of roach / perch / and the odd chub.Upper sections. Large bags of grayling, and whats new is lots of ide, 2oz to 4oz don't know whereThese have come from , but they make good sport at this time of year.AIRE & CALDER CANAL. At its prime now for quality roach, if you get the right peg. If not you will catch perch in good numbers , to give you a good day out.PIKE & PERCH. WELL ITS YOUR TIME OF YEAR. The canal on all sections is stuffed, but the hot spots are, town centre, for lg perch double figure pike reported on red beck Kossets and seen again the monster of the deep water section top end of the willows for very lg perch, pop shop has lg pike reported, this is the big one, Lockwoods wides. Opposite the barges, from reports this pike is well in excess of 20lb, can you catch it, a photo please if you do.BROOKFOOT LAKE. SMALL SPOON producing jacks and good perch, some better pike on lg plug but I think the best fish will come on legerd dead bait but you may have to wait a while. REMEMBER there are pike to over 30lb in the lake. Real fish for real anglers.Had a good catch?? let us know. E-mail your photos, where were you fishing? what bait did you use?. Get yourself on the web site. We need your info. Please send details (including name and email address) here, My Catch.
