Tony Riley's Pond |
|
Tony Riley's Pond is part of the Brookfoot Lake fishery. We have recently enlarged the water and turned it into a 22 peg, match lake as part of the main lake project. The pond contains a mixed species head of fish from smaller stock examples (carp, tench, roach, rudd and small skimmer bream) to larger, mature fish. With the depth varying from 1-2.5m (the old side being the deeper) there are lily pads beginning to mature and hold fish. The club has designated the water a ‘members' only fishery and is particularly suitable for the younger angler and the disabled (Ref - access). Pole and whip fishing are the most popular methods, with barbless hooks and some carp/trout baits as the main restrictions. If your are lucky, recent catches have produced 10lb plus for a five hour session, though as ever, it can be hard to get bites. Please fish from the flagstones used to mark the pegs). Though not perfect, it is possible to get all the way round with a wheelchair. The pond is some 200m from the car park but we are in the process of improving the path and making access more amenable for wheelchairs. If wet however, expect to get your hands dirty. Unfortunately, we do not have toilet facilities at the fishery. A sub committee has been given the task to oversee and encourage the junior aspect of club angling and education regarding watercraft and good practice. We want to restore an active junior match programme and we are looking to get young anglers more involved. The junior members already involved, meet once a month to learn methods, tactics and skills. When possible, these sessions are held on our fisheries. (One of our younger members is at present the captain of Barnsley A junior match team). The juniors are overseen by one or more of three committee members who are members of the 'Professional Anglers Association'. We are also hoping to get the assistance and advice of noted anglers as well as the support of members from local N.F.A. divisional teams, many of whom are Brighouse A.A. members. |
