Lockwoods just up from the car park often produces...so too will the Flour Mill on its day but 2hrs at a time should be enough for you to decide if its worth staying...please let us know how you get on

COMMENTS: hi I'm Pete I'm a junior and i want to go fishing with my granddad for mainly coarse fishing i was wondering where the best spot is for a beginner? Replies:Hi Pete, hope to see you on the pond in the first instance -full members only remember and if you are 12 or over you must have EA licence -where regulars are catching odd fish , carp and roach and gudgeon to a variety of baits. The recent match winner had 22lb with 6 pound for second and third at 4 pound after that a lot struggled to catch....go down and watch and ask the bailiffs would be our advice similarly on the canal just outside our gate by the outflow probably fishing with bread punch-again watch and ask those who are catching. The lake is much harder although the night anglers - special permit only and none left --- have caught carp tench and bream others of us are struggling but plenty of fish to be seen in the shallow's and early evening when the wind drops.
A lot of smaller pike are active on the lake and one beauty 14 lb witnessed and recorded on photo from the canal. One pensioner nearly landed one of the bigger females in the lake but alas inexperience led to its escape.
hope this is helpful

Went round brook foot today just casting a lure and noticed a few people were fishing on tony riley's! how's it fishing on there? and I'm guessing light tackle with pinkies or something for bait? anything you could recommend?? cheers. Replies: hi JOE, Tony Riley's seems as consistent as anywhere just now BUT you are unlikely to catch everyday better roach to caster and odd carp to a variety of baits and enough bites to keep anglers interested in smaller roach to maggot and pinkie.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF FENCED OFF PEGS ON CANAL SIDE BANKING OF THIS POND

them this winter? Replies: many of us have similar experiences but perhaps don't get the roach feeding as much as you do so don't get the nuisance pike attacks
nothing has been done if you would like to lead a work party to have a go then we are sure others would help out
generally we want you gear up appropriately* and follow the guidelines in the handbook
the committee has no plans re pike in the future

COMMENTS: when will it be prime time for big carp fishing on brook foot? and also what will the pole fishing for silver fish be like on the big lake at the same time? Cheers. Replies: hi a tough one this for the carp your best bet will be to go and talk to the regulars though how much they will give away is limited and rightly so- they spend a lot of time and effort for their rewards but like all fish rising water temperatures and colour in the water will promote feeding spells at any time of the year but will they be in April and June this year...ask Hudson on look north!!! read up on the masters..Yates, Wilson and walker etc
last year at this time the silver fish "went mad" ( see "ray says" entry) after the above conditions coincided with a fresh roach stocking.. we are hoping to arrange similar input shortly but the weather is out of our hands
as we suggest many times plan regular short sessions rather than sporadic lengthy ones that way you might be around when the regular lads start to catch...and so should you

This is a bit too late for you to obtain one or even two night permits !!!!- they sold out very quickly AND ARE FOR MEMBERS ONLY The committee felt it important to keep the water tightly controlled We have a group of dedicated night bailiffs who monitor the water for us
In the past couple of years some of the best catches have come to anglers that have been able to prepare their chosen swims and fish early morning or in short after tea sessions in the summer when there are less people around
Let us know how you get on- be patient!

COMMENTS: sorry to be a pain guys I've checked the site nearly everyday to see if you would reply to my last request, unfortunately to no avail. Will there be any big carp going back in the lake at some point this year? I've been a member now since I was 15 years old and used to love taking big carp from the lake but now its all stopped!! I fished for a week solid last sent and plenty before Christmas and only thing I caught was a duck!! I look forward to hearing from you and will be checking daily to see if you have picked me up!
Replies: Firstly apologies: we do try not miss comments but obviously failed on this occasion
No is the answer
We have allocated a substantial sum 000`s to restocking this winter for "silver fish" for the Lake and canal However we are aware of the value to our members of the Carp and will continue to monitor and review our policies as a matter of interest have you talked to our Bailiffs who look after the Lake for us on a night??
These guys know the water well !!!! Spring and mid summer seem to be the best times last season-well that's what they tell us anyway!

COMMENTS:
I am a new member to the club.
Is fishing on the river Calder next to Brookfoot lake and tony riley's
permitted by Brighouse AA members
hi
tony
the peg immediately behind the lock house would appear to be free fishing and many members do use it
However upstream of the first large tree is all no 1 water
we have the stretch 100 metres below the weir from the fence end downstream to lock house- see yearbook section Ganney Lock and be careful of bank side access
Both above and below weir can fish very well for coarse fish but are currently Trout dominated .....as these fish are out of season please handle with care. Trout will give good sport and are caught regularly to @3lb on maggot
one No1 member had one at 6lb before Christmas

Mick,
thanks for posting such a fitting tribute to Ray and for inviting me to post my own comments. I agree with all you have said, HE was indeed a stalwart of the club. Without him the club would not be what it is today. Along with Dennis Noble I can say I could not have wished to have known two better people, through the sport of fishing they both became such good friends of mine. I write his through a cloud of tears as I cant imagine how the club wil be without them. May God smile upon them both, they both deserve all the goodness that the afterlife can bestow upon them. REST IN PEACE Ray and Dennis, I am forever in your debt for the friendship and comradeship that you gave me, you will both be so missed.
Thanks to you both.

how come i got told by a baliff to kill any pike i catch?
i totaly think this is wrong as they are few pike in canal and the river as
it is ! Replies: It has been club policy for a number of years not to return pike to club waters. The arguments to return or not to return pike would fill this entire page. It is entirely up to the individual angler concerned to make a decision as to whether or not to return the fish, and that decision should be respected by both sides regardless of personal feelings. HI, Having joined the club back end of year i am looking to further my knowledge, tactics on fly fishing this section. Had one day course at Bolton abbey then practiced along Calder no success, so for new season does anybody do the odd lesson on river fishing i could enrol on to get to grips and put my passion to actually catching the odd trout.
Thank you.
Replies: Hi Trevor I am probably not the best person to give a bug wafter any advice as I have only been fly fishing once and caught a three pound blue bottle, seriously I would suggest that you have a word with the local tackle shops Calder Angler Supplies Brighouse and A Jewson Halifax as I am sure they will be able to help you catch more fish with their invaluable advice. We are a bit thin on pike anglers on the committee just now but here goes for the time being...
REPLY TO PIKE QUESTION ON THE 10TH DEC
"enjoy your catch whilst you can these fish are probably males that will shortly be shoaling tightly in pursuit of the big females prior to spawning There aren`t many in the lake but one or two are BIG and these are a very different quarry. Generally we would argue big baits for big fish ...... your jacks as deadbait would probably do just fine!!!!!!!....wait till it freezes the line to the rod rings ...... fish the deepest parts and hedge your bets with a second rod. Answers courtesy of your local library; Fred Taylor, Bernard Venables, Jim Gibbinson and the ever reliable John Wilson UNLESS YOU KNOW BETTER ?"
Last winter one of our juniors took (at least) 4 fish to 12 lbs whilst using a second rod to catch newly stocked roach...so perhaps you may wait till this years restocking?
